I think people have to dedicate a chunk of time to actively attempting to make sense of the world every day. And that is get out your diary and write all the thoughts you had in your head and didn't have time to synthesize until you woke up this morning. You have to be an active participant in the sedimentary nature of building up knowledge of the world. Otherwise, it won't happen or it'll happen obliquely only indirectly. Things will happen, but you won't have something that you can turn back to and use as a tool if you don't craft it.
