If you can get your family out to the city, they're in a much better situation. Modern cities are just not survivable if the infra structure goes down. Having a plan to have supplies stock piled is extremely important. Now, the amazing thing is to see that it seems that many of the ucranian systems still work. Stores still have food. I've seen interesting videos of people going around showing the shelves in the supermarket.
