Irish Attitudes Towards Gallic Highlanders
The way of life, traditions and culture of the irish appeared to the english and low scott's eyes to be chaotic and barbaric. The agriculture relying much more on a pasture and cattle rearing with arable cultivation just going on in strips and small fields,. And they put that down to laziness. Or worse, they saw irish chieftains as tyrannical. In summary, many, from the king down saw the gaelic irish as savages who had failed to progress or live in an ordered polity regulated by law. There are clear parallels here with long standing lowland scottish attitudes towards gallic highlanders.
