I think we're at a crossroads in history. I don't really see anyone, anyone fixing the trajectory. The capacity to defer gratification for a more distant goal is something that in his view does set apart different class structures. He was writing this during the 1960s civil rights so called civil rights rights that were breaking out across society. But he doesn't believe that riots are ever justified by anything to do with rights they are always contemptible and culpable.
