Do We Really Need Grounded Language Learning?

In a very real sense, as you pointed out, child language acquisition is aided by all these other senses. And that language is in some sense grounded in my experience of the world. But it kind of had to have that experience in the first place. It seems to me like you've got a language model that is purely trained on text and does not have that back and forth right between the language and this groundedness in the real world. So perhaps there's a lot of efficiency, something very real there that you're kind of losing just with the, I suppose, training on core core of text alone.
