There is an argument to say that you don't have to be overweight to experience the same issues with insulin resistance. You can be a thin person, healthy looking habitus and still have insulin resistance. Chronic inflammation conversants in some resistance, it's not generally accepted to be the primary target for addressing insulin resistance in things like type 2 diabetes. Although I think if you were to improve inflammation, whether it be through diet or exercise, you can get to the root cause of metabolic syndrome.
