The Nuclear Option - What Happened in 2013?
The process that has evolved and become known as the nuclear option. In 20 13 was senatorry called up one of the nominations that was being blocked by republicans. He asked the presiding officer for a ruling on how many votes it took to invoke clocher and debate on this nominee. The presiding officer said that senate rules state that it takes 60 votes to nd debate on this nomination. And then senator recalled a vote to overturn that rule and establish a new precedent.
