Why You Shouldn't Power Off Hard Drives
When a fan in your computer is going to die, it's more likely when it stops and starts than when it stayed running the whole time. You shouldn't still be running IDE drives at this point, for example. But you're not going to wear out a less than five year old hard drive just by powering it off twice a week or whatever.
