The Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell

Bilbo decides he's not going. He thinks in his mind when he's going to bed, I'm not going to wake up in the morning. And that's his kind of final decision. We can all be heroes, we can all go through the same process. All right. So that's it. That's the end of chapter one. They all go to sleep. Okay. Bilbo says, in the morning, we can wake up early and make breakfast. But then once again, the adventurousness, the excitement starts to go away. His old fear, his old, you might say, you know, I don't know, his comfort comes back. Right.
