The Rise and Fall of the Ottoman Empire
In the mid-16th century, the Empire is almost at its peak in terms of territory and power. Suleiman proclaims himself the caliph and protector of the Muslim world. Ottoman military technology and scientific achievements allow him to project that power from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean. The Janissaries are the first modern standing army in Europe. Eventually, they will become so powerful that they will even decide the fate of the sultans.
