In 1950, Lucy and Desi start their own company called Desi Lu Productions. It's a project that combines Lucy's creative instincts with Desi's business know-how. The response to their vaudeville act was so overwhelming, the studio was forced to admit that the couple's dynamic is brandable. In 1951, television was filmed live on the East Coast, so it could air simultaneously across the country. Back then, shooting in Los Angeles would mean taping on something called kinescope, which makes the footage look terrible.
