What's the Metaphor of a Shepherd?
Abel is keeper of sheep, and that's interesting, because that makes him a shepherd. And i think that's part of the critical issue here. You had to be tough and self-reliant in middle eastern shepherds. It wasn't like england in the sixteenth century where you sling shot with a stick or some damned thing. Your job was to keep the sheep organized and not let them be eat by the lions alone.
