You could manipulate the genes of a mouse model. Again, either a knock-in or something similar. And then you have... Or knockout. The closest that you can get is this disease model, like a bowel cancer model in a mouse. That then you could not only try to experiment diagnostically, how better can we screen for pre-cancer states and even do what kind of environments. It's all genetic. So whether it may be inherited through a parent, or whether it's an environmental thing, like sun, chemical exposure, whatever,. All the effects are genetically based.
In this episode, Dr Matt and Dr Mike discuss how humans realised that bacteria could fight off viruses using sequences in their DNA called, CRISPR. Today, CRISPR technology is being used to cure cancer and investigate the cause of genetic disease.
