The course of our earthly life is set by the deed we do or don't do. Saint thomas aquinas expresses a well established capital idea when he says that a single act of charity, a single of faith, working through love, merits eternal life. Now the angels only get one chance. Our life is extended again over time. We get many chances as long as we live in the body. A single act of the love of jesus toward another human being is so pleasing to god that he will reward it
