The Importance of a Southern Accent

It's interesting because you're from the South, you've written quite a few songs where, for example, George Wallace appears. But is the flip side of that, that if somebody has a southern accent, people then assume he's a racist? I mean, to some do. Some may. And given how polarized the times are now, there is probably not the same audience for a sophisticated, nuanced take on certain kinds of characters.
