The Importance of School Start Times
In 10 or 15 years time, we will be desperately ashamed about the earlyness of school start times. The data is fast accumulating and I think it is now unequivocal. One of the earliest studies that looked at this happened in America in Minnesota when they shifted their school start times from 7.25 to 8.30 in the morning. Academic grades increase, behavioral problems decrease, truancy rates also decrease. And then we also see psychiatric and psychological problems decreasing dramatically.
