"It's one thing to shoot back at somebody, but it's another like the person who wins is the motherfucker who keeps his face on the gun," he says. "I just never forget like I was like, I'm not only do you hear the fucking static bro, you're hearing all theucking hits on the arm." He recalls how Afghan soldiers would run to him and then get mowed down as they tried to reach him in a firefight with U.S. troops. The medic remembers trying to put tourniquets on some of those wounded while others were still fighting for their lives.
