What Is the Therapeutic Effect of Medication?
Short acting stimulants peak in effect at about two hours, and they wear off at about three and a half to four hours. A dose taken of a short-acting medication at seven AM reaches its peak at around nine, and then is worn off by 11. The child has to remember to go to the nurse's office to take a second dose; that time of day may change from one day to the next because of when lunch changes.
