The Inflammatory Process Induced by Oxidized Lipids

Monocytes decide to stay, and they will morph into resident macrophages. However, more of them will come if there is inflammatory process induced by the oxidized lipids that make adhesion molecules and chemoattractants. The macrophages specialize in taking up the oxidized LDL, and as they do so, they become like giant cleanup sites. They turn into these foam cells, which is basically like a giant warehouse for all this gunk.
