Schoenberg's Survivor From Warsaw
A Survivor from Warsaw was written by Schoenberg in 1947. This piece combines a lot of Schoenberg's techniques, including Sperchstema or speech song. The narrator is never given a specific pitch to sing, only the direction of the line. Medieval chant also was not specifically pitched and the singer usually knew only whether to go up and down in the line.
