Nia Zov erected a commemorative complex in his home village of Gipjack conceived as a symbol of the rebirth of the Turkmen nation. The runama was lauded in songs and state-run media regularly broadcast or printed excerpts from it. Criticizing the book, even in private, was tantamount to criticizing Nia Zov, an offense punishable with a five-year jail sentence.
