Happy Birthday

Rachel, who writes for iReporters, asks why happy birthday always sounds so awful when sung by a group at a party. She says it's related to the nature of the song and that people tend to start in the middle of their register instead of lower end of their register. And jumping an octave from your middle register is very difficult, unless you're a trained singer. The sound of those feeble just yelling random notes of happy birthday will sound familiar to anyone.
