The Intern At Work: Internal Medicine
00:00
Introduction
The kidneys are filled with millions of very precisely organized nephrons, which each contain filters called glomeruli. When pasta starts to leak through and ends up in the sink, or when the pasta water cannot be filtered appropriately, we run into obstacles on our journey to make a delicious pasta dinner. As CKD progresses, the prevalence of metabolic acidosis increases. Chronic metabolic acidosis is associated with systemic inflammation, bone resorption, increased muscle catabolism, impaired myocardial contractility, and CKD progression.
