The Impact of Rising Prevalence on the Social Cost of Autism in the United States
3% of 8-year-olds were diagnosed in 2020 compared to 2.3% in 2021. Diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder dramatically increased in black, Hispanic and Asian communities. More than 1% of girls overall have autism. Predominantly it's been found in boys and certain minority groups reporting more cases of the disorder than ever before.
