After losing multiple friends to the disease, he wanted a way to immortalize their stories and create an outlet for his own grief. Aronson started writing a script, and larsen got to work on the music. Though there was one problem, the songs didn't really go with Aaronson's script. It was like they'd each created something great, but separate, and they couldn't find a way to marry them. The pair came up with an agreement for larson to pursue the project solo.
