The study that I'm referencing is actually from a Scandinavian country where they don't have the necessarily the same moral fabric that we do. It's a very inclusive, very tolerant society and there isn't the same division on this issue. So the reason that they're continuing to self-harm after is because a transition, whether it's social or surgical, is not a cure for what they're suffering from.
