A privateer is said to have captured a French ship in the Indian waters. The crew would have been stripped of their valuable cargo, leaving him with a skeleton ship. A Dutch merchant ship carrying valuable spices from the East Indies was also thought to have come under attack by kid. Kid's missteps cast a dark shadow over his reputation and eventually led him to the gallows.
