Our concep of human nature has been transformed in the past 50 years by startling findings about the fallacies and biases to which they are vulnerable. This is the crooked timber out of which democratic governments must be made. We boasted talking about the contributions that our science can make to society. But when we sit down in namebrand universities or fancy schmance scientific societies have to make decisions collectively, we fall right back into all of the flaws that our own science tells us to avoid.
