The Risk of Acute Kidney Injury From LVAD Implantation

Having chronic kidney disease prior to LVAD implantation does increase your risk of AKI. The presence of a low GFR, as I mentioned, protonuria increased right atrial pressure going into your operation. Longer cardiopulmonary bypass times during complex and atomic or surgical LVAD implantations can be difficult. So all of these physiologic insults can increase the risk for acute kidney injury.
