In 1906, 12 years after he's credited with discovering how to intentionally make flaked cereal, W.K. Kellogg quit working for his brother and started his own cereal company. Renaming the company after their shared last name resulted in a bitter legal battle between the Kellogg brothers. Despite living in the same small city in southwest Michigan, the two brothers would rarely speak for the 37 remaining years John Harvey was alive.
