The Purge of GOO
In 1931, GOO was captured by the KMT secret police in Wuhan. He knew that he would be tortured and possibly executed if he didn't defect. In 1934, after a massive purge of CCP agents, GOO defected again. This gave them time to flee out of cities where they were most vulnerable. The story is about how these two events played out over 22 years during China's civil war from 1921-49.
