The Importance of Hedges in Investment Banking

Bank deposits basically tripled in a little over a year, maybe two years. With that, they bought securities that had interest rate risk and hedged those risks. It's like buying Apple and then selling Apple. So it's probably there will be an imperfection in the hedges. And the other thing is you don't know if central counterparties or the center are sufficiently well capitalized to deal with the demand for protection of these hedges.
