The Advantages of Doing a PhD

A PhD is going to teach you a lot about science in general, but it's also going to give you a very, very, very narrow field of expertise. Realistically, you're spending three years or five years or even more learning a lot about one topic and contributing to the evidence on a topic. That can be super gratifying, you know, it can be a really good experience. If you have a deep interest in a topic that alone can make it worth it sometimes. But from an opportunity cost perspective and from a sort of business perspective, you could be spending those three to five or 10 years however much time you would spend per week on your PhD.
