How Did You Decide to Ask Liz Bializay to Address the Court?
Liz Bializay, a Chigozian in her late 60s, could neither read nor write. We asked the court whether they would be willing to allow her to make her statement by way of a pre-recorded video. She only spoke Crayol and she couldn't read or write. So we pre-recorded a statement, it lasts just three minutes and 47 seconds. I've done dozens and dozens of cases at the international court and I can't recall a more powerful moment than this one. The judges wrote subsequently that it had a profoundly important effect on their opinion.
