Introduction

Jenny Nottle is a lecturer in English at Exeter College Oxford and the author most recently of a book called Mother Tong, a History of Women's Words. We spoke about the way that women's social history can be glimpsed through the history of language. Also discussed words including gossip, spinsters and testicles.
