The Thomas Christians: A Paradox of Being Pre-European

The Thomas Christians are the oldest Christian tradition of South Asia. They trace their origins from Jesus as a apostle Thomas who is believed to have traveled to India around 52 CE where he converted many locals. Despite being connected to another part of the world, their traditions took deep root in the cultural landscape of the Malabar coast and interior which meant that they lived side by side with local Hindu traditions. And when Muslims began to arrive through trade in the MalabAR coast, the Thomas Christians maintained peaceful relations with them.
