This chapter challenges the common view of Socrates by offering a fresh perspective on his life and philosophy. It explores the controversies surrounding Socrates, the lack of biographical information about him, and the difficulties in interpreting various textual evidence. The chapter aims to reconstruct a more accurate image of Socrates by considering different sources and questioning the literary construct passed down to us.
In this episode, I speak about Socrates with Armand D'Angour, professor of classics at Oxford University. He is the translator of How to Innovate: An Ancient Guide to Creative Thinking (2021) and the author of Socrates in Love: The Making of a Philosopher (2020), among other works.
