Do We Need a National Privacy Law?

Some republicans are lamenting the fact that some democrats are asking for civic concessions in a national privacy law. Do we see, like a national privacy law coming into place any time soon? I think it's a larger issue, you knowlfor many of the companies that they just don't like the idea that their business model is based on the compromise of our privacy....
