I think there's a reason why that works, which I mean, there's a number of reasons. But one of the ones that strikes me is that part of what you need for an intellectual inquiry is you need someone to have their eye on what matters. And so you're not just saying fun things that come into your head, but you're trying to go somewhere. Like, I'm trying to understand something about this,. Is there really a deep tension?
