What Is the Power of the 1619 Project?
I had no idea how people would respond and in fact the night before publication I was sort of a complete mess. slavery is something that we've kind of willfully not wanted to deal with in our society so here was an entire project tens of thousands of words excavating the legacy of slavery. So I knew the power of what we were trying to do but as you know just because you produce something important and something that you feel is powerful doesn't mean that the world responds to it in that way.
