The Importance of the Frontier in American History

Census Spirit declares the frontier closed in 1890. Frederick Jackson Turner, who was probably the preeminent, at least certainly by reputation, late 19th century American historian says that age of settlement is over. In 1924, we get these very restrictive immigration acts, which now, you know, all right thinking people think are very terrible. I'm just saying that with some ironic distance.
