The Gates of Hades Will Not Overcome It
Jesus is making this declaration again from Sesarea Philippi, which we know is the city that's built upon a rocky terrace. And then of course, Peter's name in the Greek means petros, which is rock. So here we have in this moment, Peter,. the rock is making this prophetic declaration that Christ is the rock, the cornerstone of our faith. He will reverse the curse of death and his own will rise on account of him. The second half of that scripture, it says, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
