The downfall of Nizam Al-Mulik is particularly interesting. He was a staunch Sunni Muslim and opposed to what he perceived to be the threat of Shia Muslim ideas. Another Persian man called Hassan Isaba had migrated to Fatimid Egypt in the 1070s possibly due to his own staunch affiliation with Shia Islam. From here, Hassan would extend his Nizari Ismaili brand of Shia Islam over many local people establishing an area of power from within the Seljuks empire. Some have suggested that Hassan was a master propagandist and may even have learned how to influence individuals by making them eat cannabis which was referred to as hashish.
