The Renaissance Rediscovers the Ideal of the Orator Stateman Philosopher

Parts of Cisaron Quintilian had been known in the intervening period between the classical world and the Renaissance. They'd had some of his rhetorical treatises before, but they hadn't had the speeches and the letters on the whole. And then in the early 15th century, the whole of Quintilian is discovered. That rounded ideal, the so-called encyclic pidea, the well-rounded education, the philosopher statesman orator. that's the chief result of this, I think. It's a different thing that it produces.
