CHAPTER

Is Nociception Necessary or Sufficient for Pain?

I feel like I have a deeper understanding of signal generation in the periphery by different types of neurons. There's a wide range of different kinds of free nerve endings that have anywhere from a very low threshold so they're very easily activated and to a very high threshold which means that they're not very easily activated. Some are very quickly adapting to the stimulus some are very slowly adapting some of them stay on when the stimulus is finishedSome cut out immediately, but no physiologically predictable situation for nociceptors do their thing outside of the rest of the century detection and encoding system. The complexity increases the closer you get to consciousness it gets more complex again Jack.
