The Protestant Challenge to the Church's Teaching of Adultery

The church bases this teaching on Jesus' words in Matthew, excuse me, Mark. Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery against her. Those who attempt civil marriage after divorce find themselves in a situation that contravenes God's law. The challenge is: How can the church teach what we just articulated in paragraph 1650 of the Catechism?
