Building the Plane as You Are Taking Off

Until you have a seriously profitable company, until you're clearing in profit five plus million dollars a year, do not think about custom software. Don't waste your time on custom software if it isn't your corps business. You need to build the plane as you're taking off. Hire somebody, and then figure it out as you go. This stuff cannot be learned in a book. You have to hire that employee, and you have to give it a shot. And look, you just got to dive in and do it.
