The History of Japan
Japan was already on the minds of many europeans and americans at this point, but not for its political power. The idea of japan as a power, an international power, was still relatively new. Japan got treaty equality with the western powers only in 18 99. In 19 o two, the british and the japanese signed the anglo japanese alliance,. again, the first military alliance between a non european or non western power and a western power, brittain in this case. It didn't sart interest in japan, but i think it changed the tenor of interest in JAPAN.
