Are Flavonoids in the Same Way as Carotnoids?

There are two kinds of pigmments responsible for these colors. One is bated kerotine, that gives carots its orange color. The other is lutin or lutine, which gives egg yolks their yellow color. That's where the oranges and yellows come from,. mainly from caratnoids and flavonoids. So why would it waste energy producing new pigments right when things are getting colder and they'regoing to have less energy? It's kind of weird, a this is a little bit of mystery, which i lovee but i dug into it a little.
