The Importance of False Claims in the Indictment

Matt Welch: The idea of false claims and the damage wrought by saying things that aren't true is so central to everything they're claiming in the indictment. He says his biggest fear for this whole thing is that it's going to set a standard for speech, which will trickle down and freeze up the entire country. Welch: Donald Trump may come forward and say, I was starting to hear all these other things that you've heard now from other sources, and these were what led me to believe it was a stolen election. If that stuff is at all persuasive, then it could at least be argued that he had reason to believe he was telling the truth.
